January Birthdays

Here are a few pictures of the January birthdays around here - better get them up before Lena's March birthday and our new baby's birth-day!

You might think this is Roger's birthday cake, but it's Gerald's. Somehow we didn't get a picture of him with his cake, but Roger was very proud because he helped make it. Did the sprinkles himself with a nervous momma watching to make sure none of them went on the ground. Should have let them fall - I would rather have Lena eat those than the day old rice krispies, leaves, fuzz, and whatever else is hanging around down there.....

Birthday breakfast with the Korean. We got to spend Laura's birthday with her - no pictures of the real cake, but she did get a candle in her pancake!

Growing up, we always got to eat on special birthday dishes. They were all Miriam's, but somehow we all got to use them on our day - that was pretty generous Mir! Part of the package being one of five, I guess...Mimi and Poppop bought a set for Roger when he was 2 - this was the first birthday I was ready to let him use them though.

When I asked Roger what kind of cake he wanted, he said "A dead cow". Huh? Ok.....ummm... He added that he wanted blood on it, just when I began to get nervous, he quickly reassured me, "Mom, not real blood, just frosting. Real blood would be gross." Of course it would be, silly me. I just couldn't do it so we had a "surprise cake" to try and keep his mind off of the dead cow - we did do a barnyard cake - close enough I hope.

Sheep, chickens (in honor of our new family members - Rog and I each got a laying hen for Christmas), piggies and.....

one dead cow - sans blood. He loved it all and had a blast at his small family party - not small family, but few - you know what I mean.

Checking out the cake and getting ready to sing.

Ok...the dead cow is hilarious - the request and the actual cupcake! So funny! I think you need to post it somewhere on a cupcake website in case any other kid out there asks for one. I would have NO idea how to make that one. I'm pretty sure no one would ask for one, but you never know. One more thing, I love how Roger is looking at Laura! So cute! Glad you got to see her!
